Gay Miami, Florida: A Comprehensive Guide
This thorough travelogue for gay visitors to Miami showcases our selected, tried-and-tested collection of the city's queer hotspots.
As you know, Miami offers more than just eye-catching figures, the ones who often patrol the beach whilst wearing skimpy shorts...
...no kidding! America's most sun-drenched municipality is additionally one of its gayest, with no scarcity of LGBTQ+ cultural draws, party opportunities, and places to reside. We really adore it here. Whether relishing a sushi lunch that includes ocean vistas or dancing until the early hours of the morning, Gay Miami is simply loads of pleasure!
Miami also stands out as one of America's most progressive locales, boasting a lively gay demographic which has proudly voiced its presence for decades. There's a valid reason why Miami Pride stands as one of Florida's premier gay festivities. Furthermore, Miami offers numerous attractions for the culture-seeking traveler. We delighted in exploring the exceptional Art Deco architecture as well as the energetic arts scene. It's not merely beaches and cocktails here! Nevertheless, those are available also.
A journey to Miami would be incomplete without allocating some beach time. The city is home to numerous world-class gay beaches, along with an overabundance of seaside gay bars, clubs, and eateries.
From the greatest gay nightlife choices to the optimal location for taking a sauna, we provide comprehensive coverage within this travelogue to make your gay holiday to Miami genuinely spectacular.

Are you arriving in Miami soon?
The last thing you want to deal with after a long flight is the hassle of managing your luggage on the Metrorail, isn't it? We favor pre-booking our private airport transfer so that we are able to meet our driver at the airport and be transported directly to our hotel with minimum stress and zero complication!
Is Miami gay-friendly?
Definitely, yes! We discovered South Beach, specifically, to be the definitive gay section of Miami. Truthfully, a majority of the city is LGBTQ+ friendly, though South Beach is where you will discover the main bars, clubs, and restaurants. What most distinguishes the city as safe and welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers is the Miami Police's Safe Place Initiative.
With captivating ocean views and exquisite Art Deco architecture, SoBe (as the locals call South Beach) has transformed over time into the city's gay community headquarters. Arguably the most popular area for LGBTQ+ travelers is 12th Street Beach, where the swimsuits are minimal and bodies appear more tanned than anywhere else! There's a multitude of rainbow flags, which makes it simple to find.
If you are fortunate enough to be in Miami for Gay Pride in April, the zone encompassing South Beach, and particularly 12th Street Beach, is where the action reaches its peak. Head to this stretch of sand for day-long partying with gay men from across the country and, indeed, the entire globe. Miami is a seriously gay city, but it must be stated that South Beach presents the city at its gayest and most phenomenal!
What is the gay area of Miami?
South Beach, and particularly the area surrounding 12th Street Beach and Ocean Drive, constitutes the primary gay neighborhood in Miami. Filled to the brim with gay-welcoming and gay-owned establishments, including bars, clubs, restaurants, saunas, and more, this is the radiant highlight of the city's LGBTQ+ scene.
There is a wealth of activities available here for gay men of all types. Visit Palace Restaurant and Bar for a delightful brunch complemented by endless mimosas. If you're in the mood to dance, there's the Latin-themed Twist club, which is packed with radiant men every Thursday evening. More specifics about this below.
Aside from this gay area of Miami, other gay districts encompass Coconut Grove. This once held the position of the city's gay scene epicenter before 12th Street took over. It's still worthwhile to visit, specifically to experience one of the city's top gay clubs, Azucar. Furthermore, the largest Circuit Party (termed URGE Miami) within the US is held every November in Coconut Grove, with a generous attendance of handsome gay men.
Gay hotels in Miami

Hotel Gaythering
In brief
- Exclusively for gay men
- Modern, complimentary spa
- Optimal central location
- Clothing-optional zone
With a seaside location within the Lincoln Road shopping district, Gaythering is our favored gay hotel in Miami.
Offering plush rooms, stylishly adorned with sophisticated touches like vintage-inspired furniture and unconventional art on the walls, Gaythering is ideal for cultured gay guys visiting Miami. Key benefit: the hotel gives its guests free bicycles, which was our favored means of exploring the city's Art Deco heritage.
This four-star hotel is distinguished by its men-only, self-service spa, which includes a steam room, dry sauna, and hot tub. Unlike most hotels in Miami, guests can utilize this spa at no additional cost. After a full day at the beach, we cherished unwinding with a lengthy steam and sauna session, followed by a soak in the hot tub. This hotel area is also a perfect setting to meet fellow gay travelers and admire those tanned bodies…!
Gaythering houses a bar zone that serves as a hub for the Lincoln Road gay community in the evenings. We appreciated the friendly and vibrant atmosphere. This spot can become quite lively, with drinks flowing freely and karaoke events happening frequently.
The rooms at Gaythering are expansive and professionally designed, making a perfect sanctuary to retreat to after a day at the beach, a night out, or a shopping spree in the neighboring Lincoln Road area. This is an excellent hotel for all those shopaholic gay men who need a relaxing spot to retire to after visiting the boutiques and superstores for which this locale is known.

Hotel Victor South Beach
In a nutshell
- Directly across from 12th Street Gay Beach
- Steps from Palace drag shows
- Luxury spa and rooftop pool
- Seductive, stylish Ocean Drive vibes
If you've strolled down Ocean Drive, you've certainly noticed Hotel Victor. It's the sophisticated, grown-up sibling within the Art Deco environment. We took a peek around (as you do), and let's simply say, if James Bond had become gay in Miami, this would be his residence.
The lobby alone resembles stepping into a GQ cover shoot. Everything is polished, glamorous, and somewhat over the top. We were so close to fabricating a proposal just to obtain a complimentary drink at the bar…
Rooms? Luxurious and contemporary, featuring those expansive beach views that essentially scream "shirtless selfie time." However, the genuine advantage lies in its location - you're literally across the street from 12th Street Gay Beach, where physiques are sculptured, egos are enlarged, and tanning oil serves as currency. Also, just a couple doors down is the iconic Palace Bar, where drag queens dance on tables and mimosas are served generously.
Even if you don't stay overnight, this establishment is a dependable base for beach days, brunches, and late-night walks in heels that are difficult to traverse in. The rooftop pool and hammam spa are equally advantageous. Essentially, it's appealing, central, and brimming with Miami's character.
03
Leslie Hotel Ocean Drive
In a nutshell
- Mere steps from 12th Street Gay Beach
- Walking distance to Palace Bar
- Incredibly gay-welcoming personnel and vibe
- Chic Art Deco-style rooms
Upon landing in Miami, we craved a place that was cute, central, and had adequate flair to align with Seby's sunglasses collection. The Leslie Hotel on Ocean Drive met our needs. Envision full-blown Art Deco fantasy - like venturing into a Wes Anderson film, but accompanied by palm trees and drag queens.
As soon as we entered our room, Seby threw himself onto the bed and announced, "This is my Miami throne now!" To be fair, it was remarkably comfortable. The espresso machine won my heart (because coffee = life), and the rooftop pool? A complete vibe. We spent an afternoon up there, sipping cocktails, gossiping about the guys at the gym, and acting as if we were in a Beyoncé music video.
The best aspect? It's only a few minutes' walk from 12th Street gay beach - aka, muscle heaven with rainbow flags and speedos tighter than our travel budget. We collected our complimentary beach chairs and towels (thank you, Leslie Hotel!), and strutted over as if we owned the location. Seby, naturally, managed to "accidentally" trip over a particularly handsome lifeguard…
Breakfast downstairs at La Trattoria provided a particular mood - envision Mediterranean bites with a Miami twist. The staff were extremely friendly, possibly even after hearing our slightly hungover chuckles echoing through the lobby at 10 am.
Overall, the Leslie is beautiful, comfortable, incredibly well-situated, and completely gay-friendly. Basically, if Ocean Drive had a lead character moment, this hotel would embody it.
04
W Miami
In a nutshell
- Luxury accommodation
- Incredible location
- Extensive fitness center and spa
- Large rooftop infinity pool
Worldwide, the W hotels have come to epitomize a distinctive brand of luxuriously stylish chic. Based on the W hotels we've stayed at, we've consistently found them populated with attractive, youthful individuals seeking to enjoy themselves with flair.
All of this renders the hotel an exceptional selection for Miami, where the people seem more lovely than anyplace else.
The W Miami is located in downtown Miami, making it perfect for city-dwellers! Initially, the rooms at W South Beach are genuinely stunning. Design is cutting-edge and colorful touches can be found all over. Then there are the marble-lined private bathrooms, which make the straightforward task of showering or preparing an utter delight. We felt like celebrities at the W Miami! The outstanding on-site spa undoubtedly assists, including a water lounge, plunge pools, and even a floating library.
The remainder of the gay-friendly hotel is equally spectacular, with the 300-foot infinity rooftop pool offering a calm yet vibrant area that is full of handsome men who are enjoying the pool to cool off. The poolside Wetdeck Cafe bar serves delicious, refreshing cocktails, and light snacks, ideal for providing sustenance for a day of doing absolutely nothing by the pool!
There is a comprehensive gym to help sustain those muscles while the staff at W Miami are some of the finest we have encountered in the city. Not only are they super gay-friendly, but they are happy to go above and beyond to make your stay at this hotel a magnificent one until the very end.
Gay beaches of Miami
If Miami is renowned for a single thing, and that is its stunning beaches. Whether you visit the epicenter of South Beach or one of the lesser-known locations, you're all but ensured of clear water, pristine sand, and clear skies in Miami. We discovered this to be extremely exclusive: there are only a select few cities globally that possess an exciting queer scene with a gorgeous gay beach right nearby. Here are the prominent gay beaches of Miami worth exploring:
12th Street gay beach
The undisputed gay heart of Miami, 12th Street beach, happens also to be a gorgeous stretch of sand in its own right and additionally one of our favorite gay beaches worldwide. Locating 12th Street gay beach is not at all challenging. It is situated at the crossing of 12th Street and Ocean Drive, the city's ultra-glam seaside thoroughfare. We adore this beach because, in addition to being a gay mecca, the water is usually calm and super clean, notwithstanding being close to a major city...as we noted above, Miami is among a select few cities worldwide we have visited that has an extraordinary (gay) beach immediately accessible.
Haulover beach
Situated approximately 10 miles north of Miami Beach, Haulover is the sole legally clothing-optional beach in Florida. The gay area resides in the northern portion between lifeguard stations 15 and 17 - keep an eye out for the abundant rainbow flags to guide you home! Facilities are restricted here. Despite our capability to rent sun-loungers and umbrellas at Haulover, we were required to bring our snacks and drinks. While substantially quieter than the 12th Street gay beach of Miami Beach, things can get pretty wild here at the peak of summer when gay men from all over visit for skinny dipping, mingling...and more...!
Gay bars of Miami
Gay nightlife constitutes a significant element of a Miami vacation, and we're loving it! From the glamorous clubs of Ocean Drive to the backstreet bars in the city center, we have found Miami's gay bars to be as diverse as its residents. Naturally, gay bars in Miami are some of the finest in America.
Packed every night of the week with attractive men from all corners of the globe, Miami's gay bars provide a carefree ambiance and vibrancy that can exclusively be found within this steamy city. Here are some of the primary establishments to explore. Note that the iconic Churchill's gay pub has permanently closed.
Twist
Miami's top-tier gay bar actually encompasses seven bars in one, with three independent dance floors for when things truly get wild later in the evening. Renowned globally as a hotspot for Miami's LGBTQ scene, Twist is an incredibly exciting destination for drinks at any time of day, though it is particularly lively on Thursday nights. Open seven days a week, we deem the optimum time to attend to be during the daily happy hour, which draws sizable crowds...as do those scorching dancers. They definitely distracted my Seby each time I tried to engage in a profound discussion with him regarding our future plans...
Location: 1057 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Open: Daily from 1 pm to 5 am
R House
The Wynwood Walls art district is one of Miami's coolest and most-visited neighborhoods. We strongly advise everyone to visit it! It's a profusion of murals and stunning 'graffiti' that you simply cannot resist being charmed by. R House functions as a hub for the neighborhood's LGBTQ+ community, even offering drag brunches every Saturday and Sunday (more information about this below). However, it is as a bar that R House genuinely shines, providing delicious cocktails, lively music, and, all in all, a great place to go for a dance on a Friday night when Seby informs you that he requires to get his Britney groove on...
Location: 2727 NW 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33127
Open: Friday from 3 pm to 10 pm, Saturday from 11.30 am to 10 pm and Sunday from 11.30 am to 6 pm.
Gramps
Indeed, this might not be an exclusively gay bar, yet their queer drag extravagant night on Thursdays is the stuff of legends! Termed "Double Stubble," the event presents a wild showcase of Miami's most extraordinary drag queens performing their craft. With low-priced drink promotions, resident DJs, and a good times crowd, Gramps is the only venue to head to on a Thursday evening in Wynwood. We strongly recommend you check it out!
Location: 176 NW 24th St, Miami, FL 33127
Open: Daily from 11 am to 10 pm
Palace Bar
Situated smack-dab in the core of Ocean Drive, Palace is one of Miami's most recognized and most-frequented gay hotspots. While you won't save much on the drinks at this establishment, we deem their weekend drag shows a must-visit for gay men in town. Since its launch in the 1980s, Palace has been the venue to commemorate all things queer in South Beach, and little has changed to this day. We particularly appreciated their terrace - the perfect spot for people-watching...!
Location: 1052 Ocean Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139
Open: Thursday to Saturday from 10 am to 4 am and Sunday to Wednesday from 10 am to 3 am.
Nathan's Beach Club
Nathan was a bartender at Twist for many years before deciding to initiate his own bar, right before a pandemic! While it temporarily closed, he has since reopened a new location with a sleek new look and name: "Nathan's Beach Club"! There is a nightly drag queen hostess, and the entire staff takes their cue from Nathan to create a truly upbeat and welcoming venue. The bar is packed with bears and twinks every night, thus making it very inclusive. Themed nights incorporate pop Mondays, Tuesday night karaoke, and "Latin Night" every Thursday.
Location: Nathan's Beach Club is located at 1216 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach
Open: It is open every day from 9pm until 4am
Gay clubs of Miami
When it comes to drinking, dancing, and general nighttime antics, we evaluate Miami as one of the top cities worldwide... Forget New York; this city never sleeps! Miami's gay clubs represent a massive portion of its celebrated nightlife. We observed that there was consistently a rowdy party to experience on any given night. Whether you're here for the legendary drag clubs or the tiny sweatboxes that do not get going until well into the early hours, we are confident that Miami's gay clubs will leave you overwhelmed!
Azucar
'Seby, get your Shakira groove on,' I stated to my Frenchman... This exceptional drag club has a clear Latin theme, creating an unforgettable Miami experience. The music is high-energy, and the drinks flow freely. We found the performances to be as varied and splendid as the staff, with many being gay and incredibly handsome! For Latin beats, freshly-mixed mojitos, and stunning drag entertainment, Azucar is unmatched. We stated we'd stay for a quick dance, yet we ended up remaining the entire night!
Location: 2301 SW 32nd Ave, Miami, FL 33145
Open: Thursday to Sunday from 10.30 pm to 5 am
Twist
Twist is legendary in Miami Beach! Everyone expressed to us that Twist is THE place we simply could not leave without experiencing. It's sprawling, with no fewer than seven distinct bars and club areas, each offering its own distinct vibe to explore. Plus, they have a party happening seven days a week until the wee hours. Oh, how we loved gawking at the attractive shirtless dancers and grooving to the latest Latino pop hits...The best part, we made many new friends at Twist, who we ended up hanging out with for the duration of our Miami vacation. Twist was easily our favorite among all the gay clubs in South Beach Miami.
Location: 1057 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL
Open: Daily from 1 pm to 5 am
Score
An evening out at Score is a recipe for trouble, especially when my mischievous Seby imbibes the rum all night long... The party persists late into the night at this South Beach gay club. Score is all about freedom and self-expression, with locals and tourists alike flocking here every night of the week for drinks, dancing, and mischief. Score is recognized throughout Miami's gay scene for possessing some of the finest music in town. We particularly enjoyed the electro-music vibe here, which our friends informed us is the best in the city. And we concur!
Location: Score doesn't have a physical location. Instead, they function as an event production company with 'pop-up events' occurring throughout town. Consult their Facebook page for details on the most recent events.
Open: Daily from 10 pm to 5 am
Basement
This heterosexual club has a tremendously gay-friendly atmosphere, making it one of the most inclusive places in Miami. We found the vibe to be fashionable, offering us glamour... and a remarkable sound system to boot! Basement also features some of the most renowned DJs on the planet, who present a live set every weekend. One of the best things about this spot is that there is an ice rink and a bowling alley inside the club itself, which renders a special experience that is super-fun for groups of gay men wishing to diversify their activities a bit.
Location: 2901 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140
Open: Daily from 5 pm to 5 am

Big Pink
This popular, art deco-inspired spot on South Beach epitomizes Americana, providing everything from chicken and waffles to french toast. The brunch at Big Pink is the ultimate remedy to a lengthy night out in the city. We admire the decor here; it genuinely feels like you're in a 1950s diner. The food mirrors this too. Comforting, retro, and not remotely healthy, Big Pink brunches are a Miami essential!

It's, in the end, embedded in the city's essence to be singular, attractive, and distinct! Miami is also home to a range of other gay celebrations that occur all year long, each with its distinct character, which we summarize here:
Gay8 Festival (February)
Taking place every February (with the exception of 2024, when it was canceled), the Gay8 Festival is an all-inclusive celebration of all things gay. With DJs, live music, performers, comedy, food vendors, and much more, the Gay8 Festival is a lot of fun. This event is a must for gay men visiting Miami in February. Where to eat in Miami
It's no secret that Miami presents some of the most delectable cuisine throughout the entire United States! From incredibly fresh sushi to classic French fare, Miami's culinary offerings are up there with the very best. As one of the nation's most cosmopolitan cities, this isn't unexpected. Our selection of the best places to eat in Miami for gay travelers encompasses a diverse collection of eateries with something to delight every palate.
Stubborn Seed
Owned and operated by "Top Chef" winner Jeremy Ford, Stubborn Seed has promptly become one of Miami's most sought-after reservations. With food of this caliber, it is not difficult to grasp why. Refined, fresh, and so Miami, the food here completely astonished us. Expect elegant entrées like Kusshi oysters with a Thai chili mignonette, alongside expertly seared beef and freshly caught prized tuna. We found Stubborn Seed to be the perfect locale for a date night before heading out to one of the gay hotspots for cocktails and a dance.
La LeGGenda Pizzerria
Who doesn't adore pizza? This establishment in the Miami Beach neighborhood offers classic Neapolitan-style pizzas with considerable expertise and plenty of affection. Whether you prefer a basic marinara or something a little more indulgent, La LeGGenda Pizza is the perfect location for classic Italian comfort food. We suggest this place after a day of drinking on the beach before returning to your hotel for a protracted jacuzzi session. Why? After a pizza at La LeGGenda, you'll desire to restrict your activity!
INTI.MO
For an extravagant experience, we are fond of INTI.MO, a fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine by the prominent Peruvian chef Juan Chipoco. We delight in Peruvian ceviche, and the ones at INTI.MO are absolutely scrumptious. The staff are delightful here too, with exceptional service to complement the amazing dishes. A lot of seafood, particularly the exquisite sushi, and a spectacular dessert named "Secreto del Inca" - a homemade brioche bread slice, lightly battered and flash-fried for perfect crispiness, topped with genuine Italian vanilla gelato. OMG, talk about a food-gasm!
Nobu
Simply the freshest, finest sushi in Miami, Nobu has long been high on the
